The parish Svenarum is located in Småland, Sweden, 40
kilometers south of the town Jönköping, near the lake Vättern.
The parish consists of several small villages as for example Svenarum, where the
church is located, Hok, Stoarp, Långserum and Hubbestad. The association
strives to explore, protect and take care of the local culture of
Svenarum.
The association has traced the history of Svenarum back to the
Middle Ages. In the 14th century the famous family of Oxienstierna
lived in Svenarum. Since then there has been many different owners of
Hok and surrounding farms. The trade and industry has consisted
of wood- and ironworks in the last 300 years. Today the Manor
of Hook is the most important employer and a nationally famous place where many people
travel to play golf and confer.
681 persons emigrated from Svenarum to USA in the 19th and 20th
century. The names of all these now departed parishioners has been registered by the association. The associaton
has also made records of former
crofter's holdings and schools in the parish.
The association of the parish Svenarum owns a folk museum,
where old buildings and articles has been preserved through the years.
